All you need to know about the Lost Loiners.
The Lost Loiners sprang from Leeds RLFC. The first Touch Rugby sessions were held on the training pitch at Headingley in the 1980's as part of the Leeds RLFC 'Loiners Guild'. However, during the development of the ground in the 1990's and the ground sharing with the Tykes, we were moved to a local park and then, briefly to the new pitches at Kirkstall. The flooding of the River Aire in the 90's closed the pitches and the Loiners Touch Rugby Squad became officially homeless.
We have trained at Abbey Grange High School on an all-weather pitch (not ideal!), at Armley Park, Roundhay Park, a Car Park!, Burley and eventually organised regular facilities at West Leeds Rugby Union Club. One of our members then christened us well and truly 'Lost Loiners!', and the name has stuck and been with us ever since.
Over the last few years we have trained at Morley RUFC, Scatcherd Lane, Morley on Monday evenings. We have the use of floodlit pitches for the winter months, changing rooms/showers and the clubhouse bar afterwards, which is convenient!!
We made the switch from Touch & Pass to Tag Rugby League around 2008 and the rest is history as they say. The Loiners were involved in the original Intermessage board Tag Rugby League, playing against fans of other rugby clubs through the RLfans network. This then became the Tag Merit League, with a more structured fixture list. In 2010 the leage was run by the RFL and took the guise of regular tornaments in and around Yorkshire. Unfortunatly, due to a lack of RFL backing the Tag League disbanded in 2014. for 2015 we are looking forward to hearing more about Try Tag Rugby, that is venturing North from the London base.
In 2011 the ‘Lost Loiners’ embark on the next stage of there history as they take up the mantel of representing Hunslet Hawks RFLC and becoming there Tag Rugby League Team.
